Description

POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a complex and increasingly common condition, and many individuals seek highly trained service dogs to help manage their symptoms. This mini-course provides professional dog trainers with essential knowledge on how POTS affects individuals, practical strategies for accommodating training, and key considerations for selecting and training service dog tasks. Special focus is given to the challenges of training medical alert tasks for POTS, the integration of smart technology with task training, safety accommodations such as fall prevention and pacing training for fatigue and exercise intolerance. Through video presentations, written content, handouts, and a quiz, trainers will gain valuable insights into working effectively with clients who have POTS.
