Description

This course explores reactivity in dogs through a systems thinking lens, examining the complex, interconnected layers of context that influence reactive behavior. We will investigate individual factors such as attachment, developmental disturbances, resiliency, and autonomy, as well as social-emotional factors like distrust, sensory and sensory-motor development. The course also delves into broader relational dynamics, family structures, and cultural and historical influences that shape behavior. Additionally, we will explore community, spatial, and temporal factors that impact the dog’s environment. By viewing the reactive dog as embedded within these multiple layers of context, we highlight the importance of considering the full system to understand and address reactivity effectively.
