Description
Learning theory is fundamental in dog training, as it helps trainers understand how dogs acquire new behaviors. Below are some key concepts you will learn about in this webinar: Classical Conditioning: This involves associating a neutral stimulus with a significant one. For example, if a dog hears a bell before being fed, it will eventually start to salivate at the sound of the bell alone. Operant Conditioning: This is about reinforcing desired behaviors and discouraging unwanted ones. Positive reinforcement (like treats or praise) encourages good behavior, while negative reinforcement or punishment can be used to reduce undesirable actions. Social Learning: Dogs can learn by observing others. If a dog sees another dog being rewarded for a specific behavior, it might try to mimic that behavior. Habituation: This is the process of getting a dog used to a stimulus by repeated exposure. For instance, a dog might initially be scared of a vacuum cleaner, but with repeated exposure, it can learn to ignore it. These principles help trainers effectively teach dogs new commands and behaviors, making the training process more efficient and humane.
