Description

Working dogs are purpose-bred and trained to perform specific tasks, resulting in unique cognitive and behavioral phenotypes compared to typical companion dogs. Understanding working dog behavior and cognitive capabilities, including genetic/environmental influences, is critical for optimal training. This presentation will examine aspects of working dog behavior and cognition from selection of desirable traits to implications for training and career success.
