Description
This presentation offers an in-depth look at how Spirit Keeper Animal Sanctuary navigates the intake process and rehabilitation of dogs considered unadoptable by other facilities due to complex behavioral or medical issues. Attendees will learn how the sanctuary selects these animals, often in collaboration with rescues, shelters, and private individuals, and the process used to evaluate each dog's unique needs. The session will cover how individualized care plans are crafted, addressing both behavioral and medical challenges, while also discussing the methods used to track each dog's progress over time. In addition to specialized training methods, this presentation will highlight the importance of behavioral management through environmental design, including managing the dogs’ living spaces and social groupings to create a conducive environment for rehabilitation. Real-life examples of successful rehabilitations, long-term care strategies, and how Spirit Keeper manages multiple special-needs dogs simultaneously will also be covered.
