Program Description: This course will review the basics of dog digestive anatomy and physiology, nutritional requirements, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and trace minerals, and the basics of raw feeding. The course aims to familiarize veterinary team members with the concepts of fresh whole-food feeding for dogs and give them the confidence to partner with owners to provide a balanced, fresh food diet. Successful participants will receive a certificate as a Professional Canine Nutritionist. The course is online and at the pace of the student. The student has one year to complete the academic portion of the program. Learning Objectives: Gain an understanding of the nutritional requirements of dogs based on being facultative carnivores. Feeding requirements for all life stages of dogs, including puppies, adult dogs, senior dogs, and pregnant and lactating females, will be taught. Gain an understanding of how kibble is manufactured and why it is inappropriate to feed exclusively to dogs during all life stages. The course explains how to enhance kibble or replace the kibble diet with a species-appropriate diet. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of the significant benefits of whole and raw food for dogs. They will be confident working with dog owners on raw diet formulations and wellness plans to ensure they receive the right balance of essential nutrients.
