PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Clinical Animal Behavior Conference is a 2 ½ day intensive conference focusing on veterinary behavioral medicine. Throughout the conference, attendees will learn the science behind veterinary behavioral medicine, appropriate use of training and behavioral modification techniques, and treatment of specific behavioral problems in companion animals. The focus of this year’s conference is on causes and treatment of aggressive behavior in companion animals. Presentations include topics such as the importance of understanding aggression, identifying pain as a cause of aggression, pharmacological treatment of aggression, and safe and gentle handling of aggressive dogs and cats in the veterinary environment and in the home. Also included are topics on navigating behavioral euthanasia, and sessions by a licensed social worker on navigating human emotions and dynamics pertaining to aggressive cases. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Attendees will learn the science behind veterinary behavioral medicine with focus on aggression, appropriate use of training and behavior modification techniques, and treatment of specific behavioral problems in companion animals. Attendees will also learn tools to understand and navigate human dynamics in relation to a pet’s aggressive behaviors and how to navigate behavioral euthanasia.
