Description
Human society has changed a lot in the last 100 or so years, and as we’ve brought dogs along with us into this brave new world, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that our modern lifestyles supply a habitat that many dog breeds are not particularly well adapted to. As an ethologist and researcher, Karolina has decades’ worth of experience working to provide animal species with optimal living quarters to improve their well-being and help them thrive better in the care of humans. In this presentation, she’s taking a critical look at how we typically care from dogs from the applied ethologist’s perspective. Learning Objectives What is ethology, and how is it useful? The three most important concerns that really make a difference. Social needs, attachment, and separation – are dogs weaned too early? How to prevent and manage fear Time budgets and foraging: how common feeding practices might do dogs a disservice, and how we can use enrichment to target different parts of the hunting sequence.
