Do you live or work with an animal that can get too excited and jump, mouth, or scratch people, destroy furniture and objects, or struggle with separation anxiety?    If we don't do anything, these behaviors can become more severe and problematic for dogs and humans... It can lead to dogs being surrendered to animal shelters or rehomed, fewer interactions or outings for the dog, and changing our daily routines, etc. ​ However, there is good news! When our dogs behave like this, they are telling us something important - that we have something they really want... OUR AFFECTION!   To fulfill the dog's needs and teach more desirable behavior, we can give the dog what they want, our affection, for doing easier and more desirable behavior that we want. And we have the perfect training technique to do this! ​ Constructional Affection uses affection in the form of gentle petting and stroking to teach desirable interactions between animals and humans. In this one-day workshop, Sean Will and Maasa Nishimuta from CAAWT will introduce a new approach to transform dogs from jumping and scratching or experiencing anxiety to calmly sitting or lying down next to us to ask for our affection. Through the workshop, you will learn the constructional approach (Goldiamond, 1974)*, how to ask questions to animals to know what they want, and the Constructional Affection (Will & Maasa, 2023). Through dog video examples and fun exercises, the attendees will learn what and how to do Constructional Affection. Through live demonstrations with dogs, the attendees will watch the power of our affection and how to apply Constructional Affection to a specific dog. At the end of the workshop, we will have Q&A time, so you can ask many questions!
