Description

Join us for this two-part webinar series about the nuances of practical training techniques for dog-dog behavior problems. Explore case studies, real-life video sessions, and how best to support and coach clients and dogs through managing social encounters. Does counter conditioning with food make sense to the dog in a social context? Does it have the potential to make things worse? How does frequent engage-disengage or approach - retreat repetitions feel to the dogs involved? Is the use of toys in a social context helpful to the end-goal? Do efforts to respond to training cues and rewards from the handler put some dogs under pressure? Are we stripping agency away from dogs when we ask them to turn their backs on an approaching dog or to set the criteria that our dogs should never react? Are we asking too much of dogs with no recent positive or neutral social experience to walk on a loose lead and avoid nose-to-nose approaches/greetings? Does a reaction always mean 'game over'? Are we holding our dogs back from progressing by applying a too high criteria? Do owners of reactive dogs have the skills to cope with a less-than-perfect scenario involving another dog? This webinar is supported by video of footage demonstrating dogs working through social rehabilitation training with Roz or her team. Including sessions 'in the wild' and controlled sessions with helper dogs. Roz will share her observations and thoughts as to why so many dogs appear to get stuck at engage-disengage or for some- to not manage this at all- and how many dogs and clients remain unable to manage social encounters.
