Description
Families with dogs are more stressed than ever before, with a global pandemic and its attendant upheaval, political and financial strife all adding to their existing stressors. COVID-19 saw an uptick in the number of people acquiring dogs, and instability in work-from-home vs. back-to-the-office produced an additional stressor for their dogs. All too often, a behavior consultant, called in to help with the family dog, adds to this list of stressors with disorganized counsel, insufficient or poorly executed triage, and impenetrable behavior reports and homework. Ironically, this attempt to be thorough and “cover” too many angles results in clients becoming overwhelmed and failing to integrate and execute key behavior change management and training pieces or critical enrichment. This presentation will focus on improving chances for success in counseling cases by focusing on triage and editing. We will also go over a sound template for contradicting clients and practice with case examples.
