Description
There are many discussions about mental stimulation, enrichment toys and activities for pet dogs, but what if the basics of training fundamentals clash with the available environment? What if a client lives in a high-rise apartment and risks eviction if a demanding puppy is left to "bark it out"? What if housetraining a new client's dog on the 15th floor isn't an 8-week-old Chihuahua, but instead a 140lb adult Mastiff who is afraid of the elevator? (There aren't enough pee pads in the world...) What is the daily impact of stress on these urban dogs, and what does that mean for training workarounds for this population of dog owners? Melissa McCue-McGrath, author of "Considerations for the City Dog," will go over some common obstacles related to the intersection of urban environment, online purchasing of dogs not socialized to the city, and dog ownership. She will also address considerations that should be made before bringing a dog to live in an urban environment, and what to do if problems arise in a busier environment when everything we know about dog training goes out the window.
