Description

Food is a regularly used reinforcer in animal training. Despite the apparent utility, little research has evaluated its efficacy in companion species or investigated factors that affect its value for the learner. In this webinar, we will cover research on dogs (mainly) and horses (a bit) that has evaluated food as a reinforcer and investigate the factors that can influence how effective it is for training, including quality, quantity, delay, and delivery methods. At the end of this webinar, attendees will have a data-based understanding of the utility of food as a reinforcer for several species, how it compares to other reinforcers, and what dimensions we can vary and how to maximize the reinforcing value of food for our learners.
