Job Title: Associate Trainer – North East DC and bordering area of Maryland
Pay: $25-$35/ hr. Based on experience and efficiency

Under the direction of the Director, Dogtown, promotes lifesaving objectives throughout the department, coordinating behavioral assessments during the admission process, care plans, and training plans that reduce the length of stay for each animal.
Collaborate with the outcomes and marketing teams, sanctuary and other Lifesaving Center leadership, to share training program success and highlight special achievements in promotion of these animals for adoption
Explore and propose methods for solving behavior problems, propose, design and implement programs, research projects
Qualifications:
2 years Professional leadership/management experience required with a background working with dog populations in group housing or sheltering living situations preferred
Develop and implement strategies to offer a wide range of dog training classes as part of SB Humane’s Safety Net Program.
Develop class curriculum and trainer materials based on positive-reinforcement dog training techniques; conduct group and private training classes and seminars; provide pet owners with training class information and written, visual or verbal advice on animal behavior issues, training methods, and training equipment aimed at enhancing the human-animal bond and preventing dog relinquishment.
Recruit and manage contract trainers and coordinate schedules
Qualifications:
Post-graduate degree in animal behavior, education, or learning theory preferred.
Min 3 to 5 years in a dog trainer position with proven ability managing a business in a related field.
Ability to effectively supervise SBH employees & contractors
Preferred Certification: CPDT-KA®
Salary & Benefits:

Private lessons, class instruction, day training / board and train.
Assist clients in establishing realistic training and behavior goals.
Manage people, dogs and the environment for everyone’s safety.
Present training curriculum in a happy, enthusiastic, engaging, and informative manner.
Private training clients – Must be willing to drive to in-home sessions, provide virtual training, as well as travel to our training facility for onsite services.
Lead group classes/workshops at our training facility as well as at partner location(s).
Coordinate and implement training/enrichment/behavioral modification plans, as appropriate, and in alignment with SPCA Westchester philosophies and provide ongoing evaluation of progress.
Provide exceptional levels of care and handling, creating an enriching environment for rescue center animals.
Assist with behavioral assessments for new intake animals.
Coordinate the daily playgroup program.
Guide, train and provide ongoing support for animal staff and volunteers that are participating in behavior and enrichment programs with the animals
Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of experience as a professional dog trainer.
Working knowledge of dog/cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions.

Private training clients – puppies, basics, and reactivity/aggression (ONLY if experience warrants and already certified). Must be willing to drive to in-home sessions, provide virtual training, as well as travel to our training facility for onsite services.
Board and train clients – assist with sessions for dogs booked at our training facility on Boxwood Rd. Opportunity to take board and train dogs into your own home, if your living situation and experience allows.
Lead group classes/workshops at our training facility as well as at partner location(s)
50% commission for private training services, $30/hr occasional admin/miscellaneous work (film social media content, build curriculums/protocols, assist a class or session with another team member) – certified trainers
40% commission for private training services, $25/hr admin/miscellaneous
The Canine Behavior Programs at Our Companions are designed to provide comprehensive, low-cost, positive-reinforcement training and educational programs to community pet guardians and our municipal shelter partners. This includes group classes, private training, behavior consulting, volunteer programming, and other behavioral referrals. Independent contractors are assigned to a program upon hire where they will provide behavior consulting and training in accordance with their area of expertise and current licensure.
Qualifications:
CBCC-KA, CAAB, or CDBC licensure and/or an MS or Ph.D. in applied animal behavior. Relevant Secondary Degree or equivalent professional experience in animal sciences, psychology, biology, animal welfare, or other associated fields
Preferred Certification: CBCC-KA®
Salary & Benefits:
Flexible, 2 hrs per week on average based on program needs, Independent Contractor, $150 per session/evaluation
